DJI Osmo 5
We did it, went and purchased the DJI Osmo 5, let see what we get, and what are our thoughts on it
First impressions
The DJI Osmo 5 feels sturdily built and somewhat light, remember there is a rechargeable battery in there, along with all of the mechanisms for stabilising you phone when taking a picture or recording a video, when you open out the DJI Osmo 5 and attach your phone to it, it does start to feel a little top heavy
Downloading the DJI Mimo App and not having it be available in the Google Play Store is a pain and cumbersome, i have yet to see any updates prompted after using the app for nearly 1 month, i’ll reserve my judgement to see how that pans out
Using the controls of the DJI Osmo 5 are pretty easy and straight forward and well documented, when using the app the feature to lock onto a subject, move around it and have the DJI Osmo 5 continue to stay locked on, does not always work for me, its not that it does not work when I get a lock, sometimes it seems almost impossible for the DJI Osmo 5 to get a lock on a subject, i’m using a Oneplus 9Pro, i’m not sure if it is something with compatibility, but the front facing camera seems to work perfectly
When extending the DJI Osmo 5 out to its full extension, it really then becomes top heavy, this is to be expected though, and give a great option for a selfie pic/video or to shoot from a different angle that you may not be able to reach
I’ve used the DJI Osmo 5 all around the home and at the beach, it performs admirably, although I am very careful at the beach, i’m not sure how sand proof it is, getting sand into the mechanism is probably not a great idea, i’ve yet to use the stand/tripod
Overall i’m on the fence about the DJI Osmo 5, maybe I love the idea of it more that my practical use of it, or maybe I just have not found the best use case for it yet, i’ll keep using it though and post my thoughts in a few months time
